John U. Bayly, Q.C. Memorial Fund

A fund in the memory of the late John U. Bayly, Q.C., a prominent member of the NWT Bar for 30 years, has been established in conjunction with the NWT Law Foundation. The fund is to encourage and facilitate the development of mediation skills. An award of $1,000 will be given out annually to an applicant chosen by the Bayly family and the Board of Directions of the NWT Law Foundation. The recipient must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a resident member in good standing of the NWT Bar;
  • Be desirous of improving their skills in the area of mediation and have demonstrated an interest in matters relating to the advancement of mediation;
  • Commit to use the funds to complete training in mediation skills within one (1) year of being awarded;

 

Application Process

Applicants are invited to submit a written letter which should include details of the applicant’s interest in mediation and why they should be chosen, along with details of the course they which to attend. The application, together with a resume, can be submitted to the NWT Law Foundation.

Application Deadline: December 31st of each year. Funds will be disbursed upon completion of the mediation course.

Study what interests you; read for the love of it; learn to write well and clearly; keep your options open; take jobs for interest’s sake; the only things I regret are those I did not do when the chance presented itself.
